Man Who Pirated ‘Fast & Furious’ Movie Gets Almost 3 Years in Prison

A computer programmer who filmed Fast & Furious 6 from the back of a cinema and then uploaded it to the Internet has been jailed for almost three years.

The pirated copy of the film was downloaded 779,000 times, costing one of Hollywood’s biggest filmmakers more than $4 million.

Philip Danks, 25, from Walsall, West Midlands, was the first person in the world to record and distribute the movie illegally after filming it on its release day on May 17 last year.

A court heard that a special “webwatch” team — set up by L.A.-based Universal Pictures because the film was so valuable — spotted his copy spreading across the Internet.

He was caught when fraud investigators noticed that his online tag “Thecod3r” attached on the video was identical to his profile on dating website Plenty of Fish.

E-cigarettes might help smokers quit

Heart Group: E-cigarettes May Help Smokers Quit

E-cigarettes are currently unregulated, meaning they can be sold to youths and widely advertised. (Joe Raedle/AFP)
The American Heart Association's first policy statement on electronic cigarettes backs them as a last resort to help smokers quit. The American Cancer Society has no formal policy but quietly took a similar stance in May.
Both groups express great concern about these popular nicotine-vapor products and urge more regulation, especially to keep them away from youth. They also stress that proven smoking cessation methods should always be tried first.

But if those fail, "it is reasonable to have a conversation" about e-cigarettes, said the Heart Association's president, Dr. Elliott Antman. The Cancer Society said e-cigarettes "may be a reasonable option" for people who could not quit after trying counseling and approved methods, such as nicotine patches.
Neither group recommends e-cigarettes for smoking cessation, and makers of the devices do not market them that way.

Beyoncé and Family Put Divorce Rumors to Rest at 2014 VMAs

Beyoncé, who was receiving the night's prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, looked taken aback (and delighted) when her spouse, carrying their little girl, came onstage following her lengthy performance to acknowledge her latest achievement.
Jay Z, with tears in his eyes, kissed his wife, while she called him "my beloved." However, it was Blue Ivy who truly stole the scene. If the toddler herself wasn’t adorable enough in her darling awards-show-worthy dress, she further captured the hearts of America by simply uttering: “Mommy!”
Cue: Heartmelt.
“I’m so full,” a visibly moved Beyoncé noted. “I’m so blessed…”
Rumors of trouble in paradise or not, Beyoncé was undoubtedly the main attraction of the entire evening, sparking social media chatter about when she'd appear in the telecast. The audience did have to cool its heels a good two hours before Queen Bey took the stage, but the superstar made sure her entrance was worthy of the wait.
“MTV, welcome to my world,” the diva calmly stated to roars from the audience. While Taylor Swift may have grabbed attention on the red carpet for her ultra-short romper look, Beyoncé neatly showed Swift how it’s done, being a well-documented veteran of the one-piece look. At this event, she chose a sparkling mirrored version with multicolored panels, giving her the look of a stained-glass window.
She then competently put the crowd in the palm of her hand with a lengthy a medley of songs comprising her self-titled album released last December, including "Mine," "Haunted," "No Angel," "Blow," "Drunk in Love," "Rocket," "Partition," "I Been in Love," "Flawless," and "XO" (featuring none other than the heart-stealing Blue Ivy).
The 2014 VMAs were held Aug. 24 at Los Angeles's Forum.
